SBRT/Dutch Wheelman Rider Profile

Fred Hoyle

Middlesex, NY

Occupation: During the day, project manager for a marketing consulting company, web programmer and photographer by night.

USCF Category: 3

Age in 2005: 41

Year began racing: 1993

Hobbies: Culinary Arts

Favorite Cyclist: Bijarne Riis - His dedication to what was best for the team was rewarded with TdF win.

Bike: Bianchi Giro

Favorite ride/race: the climb up Griesa Hill - narrow, twisty, through the vineyards, overlooks Canandaigua Lake. Almost Euro in its feel. The Cloud Splitter Classic in Lake Placid, NY was a fun race. I'd race in the morning and the rest of the day was spent as a tourist with my wife. We got the best of all worlds - racing, touring around a beautiful part of the country with Pam, and evenings of great dining.

Why I Ride, Why I Started: My first wife left me so I had to fill the days with something not too destructive - cycling seemed to fit the bill. It afforded me the opportunity to meet plenty of great people and an excuse to travel.

Over the past ten years my racing career has been a roller coaster (like most others, I'm sure). The last 2-3 years the Wheelman have been getting tighter and racing as a team. This is racing at its best when you can use your brain, get tactical, and not simply hammer yourself into the pavement. Other notables: Past president of the Genesee Valley Cycling Club and the original promoter of the Bristol Hills Road Race.
